Meeting with Maria Stachurska the director of the film ‘Położna’, biographer and grand-niece of Stanisławy Leszczyńskiej who was a midwife imprisoned in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp.
On September 12, 2026, we hosted Maria Stachurska, the director of the film “Położna” and the author of the book “Położna: o mojej cioci Stanisławie Leszczyńskiej.” The meeting was organized as part of the “Heroism in Auschwitz” project and brought us closer to the beautiful figure of Stanisława Leszczyńska, who, under inhumane conditions in the German concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, delivered over 3,000 births – all the children born were healthy and their mothers had no complications. After receiving the diploma, Stanisława came to the Church of St. Wizytek on Krakowskie Przedmieście in Warsaw and made a vow to stop practicing if any child died during childbirth. This never happened, and she retired after over 40 years of work…
Maria Stachurska brought us closer to her Aunt in a very direct, warm, humorous, joyful, and with a big heart way. Thank you
