Our annual event, celebrating Polish Independence at the Polish Memorial Garden in Douglas, south Scotland.
Members of Stowarzyszenie Rodzin 1PDPanc (Association of the Families of the 1st Polish Armoured Division) attended which included Karolina Maczek-Skillen, granddaughter of General Stanisław Maczek.Mirosław Sycz, Consul General of the Republic of Poland, was also present. Other special guests included Adam Siwek, director of IPN Office for Commemorating Struggle and Martyrdom, General Miroslav Downar, and officers of the 10th Armoured Cavalry Brigade.
The ceremony was opened by Chris Sagan, the Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Sikorski Polish House.
Holy Mass to commemorate Polish soldiers took place in the nearby Community Centre and afterwards there was a performance by the Polish Folk Group ‘Gościniec’ presenting patriotic songs. Sikorski Polonez Dance Group also danced in wonderful Polish costumes.
